Principles of metric pattern in Urdu poetry
Ilm-e-Arooz is Urdu counterpart of Prosody which is used to determine if a couplet follows a particular metric pattern or not. Under Arooz, various metric patterns have been classified with each metric pattern known as ‘Bahr’. Each ‘bahr’ constitutes of a few ‘arkaan’ (sing.-rukn) or part which are used to determine the metric pattern of a couplet. It is divided in to its ‘arkaan’ with the process known as taqtii’ (Scansion)
