Inaugurating the function, Kapil Sibal, minister of communication, Government of India, called this initiative as a mirror of the trans-cultural unity of our country. “It can only happen in India that a non-Urdu speaking person takes up such a big burden of promoting the language on his shoulders,” he said. He applauded Saraf and his team for the initiative and said that “the language will always remember this contribution from him.”

Ghalib, Iqbal, Mir and others would be jubilant up there and surfing the net, maybe!

वेबसाइट में सर्च इंजन भी रखा गया है जिसमें एक शब्द टाइप करके आप उससे जुड़े शेरों को पढ़ सकते हैं या फिर कोई खास शेर ढंूढ सकते हैं। किसी शेर का अगर कोई खास शब्द आपको समझ नहीं आ रहा है, तो उसका मतलब भी उस पर क्लिक करके मिलेगा। वेबसाइट में 35000 शब्दों के साथ डिक्शनरी, वीडियो और रेयर ई-बुक्स भी हैं। वेबसाइट को केंद्रीय मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल ने लॉन्च किया। इस मौके पर सूफी गायिका अनीता सिंघवी ने खूबसूरत पेशकश दी।

With the launch of the most comprehensive website on Urdu poetry, the 800-year-old tradition finds itself dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Due to be unveiled as we went to press, offers everything from ghazals and couplets to audio clips and poets’ biographies, all available at a few clicks of a mouse.


Minister of Communications and Information Technology Kapil Sibal launched the website ‘’ - an initiative by Rekhta Foundation in the capital. The website is a gateway to the world of Urdu poetry and features recitation, a dynamic dictionary, a search engine, rare e-books, etc for ardent Urdu lovers.

Rekhta offers Urdu poetry in Hindi and Roman scripts in addition to Urdu script. has included more than 3,000 selected ghazals of around 250 poets- both classical and modern and is continually adding to it.
