Rekhta Baitbaazi

A National Competition Celebrating Urdu Tradition

Rekhta Foundation presents Rekhta Baitbaazi to preserve Urdu tradition, inspire youth, and nurture the language for future generations.

Baitbaazi, a traditional Urdu poetry competition popular in India, Pakistan, and across the Urdu diaspora, assesses participants ability to memorize and recite couplets (sher/ashaar) in response to those recited by others. This enriches their repertoire of Urdu poetry and motivates them to memorize more couplets. Antakshari, the Hindi counterpart of Baitbaazi, similarly captivates enthusiasts of Hindi poetry and songs.
