H پتا पता patā [S. पत्रकः; see next], s.m. Sign, mark, signal, symptom, token, trace, clue, hint, direction, specification, particular mention; address (of a person), address (or place to which one is directed), label; book of instructions and regulations (for rent-collectors, &c.):—patā pānā (-kā), To obtain a clue (to), to trace, &c.=patā lagānā, q.v.:—patā denā (-kā), To give the clue, or direction, or address (of);—to direct, point out:—patā rakhnā, v.n.=patā lagānā, q.v.:—pate-kī kahnā, v.n. To expose (one):—patā lagānā (-kā), To trace out, find out, or discover (the personality, abode, business, &c. of a person); to follow up a clue; to search, search out.
پتا पत्ता pattā
H پتا पत्ता pattā [S. पत्त्त्र+कः; Prk. पत्तं, or पत्तओ], s.m. Leaf (of a tree); a card; an ornament worn in the upper part of the ear; a leaf-shaped ornament hanging from an ear-ring:—pattā toṛ bhāgnā or bhāg-jānā, v.n. To run as fast as one can, to take to one's heels (so called from a boy's game in which the runner has to pluck a leaf from a certain tree and catch one of the rest who have run off):—pattā honā, v.n. To run off, run away, flee.
