Ali Sardar Jafri was invited to join the Atal Bihari Vajpey's delegation to Lahore but had to decline on account of ill health. Jafri sent a set of 10 cassettes of Sarhad to Vajpayee to be gifted to poets and writers of Pakistan as a message of love and friendship. This nazm was part of the audio collection.
गुफ़्तुगू बंद न हो
बात से बात चले
सुब्ह तक शाम-ए-मुलाक़ात चले
हम पे हँसती हुई ये तारों भरी रात चले
हों जो अल्फ़ाज़ के हाथों में हैं संग-ए-दुश्नाम
तंज़ छलकाए तो छलकाया करे ज़हर के जाम
तीखी नज़रें हों तुर्श अबरू-ए-ख़मदार रहें
बन पड़े जैसे भी दिल सीनों में बेदार रहें
बेबसी हर्फ़ को ज़ंजीर-ब-पा कर न सके
कोई क़ातिल हो मगर क़त्ल-ए-नवा कर न सके
सुब्ह तक ढल के कोई हर्फ़-ए-वफ़ा आएगा
इश्क़ आएगा ब-सद लग़्ज़िश-ए-पा आएगा
नज़रें झुक जाएँगी दिल धड़केंगे लब काँपेंगे
ख़ामुशी बोसा-ए-लब बन के महक जाएगी
सिर्फ़ ग़ुंचों के चटकने की सदा आएगी
और फिर हर्फ़-ओ-नवा की न ज़रूरत होगी
चश्म ओ अबरू के इशारों में मोहब्बत होगी
नफ़रत उठ जाएगी मेहमान मुरव्वत होगी
हाथ में हाथ लिए सारा जहाँ साथ लिए
तोहफ़ा-ए-दर्द लिए प्यार की सौग़ात लिए
रेगज़ारों से अदावत के गुज़र जाएँगे
ख़ूँ के दरियाओं से हम पार उतर जाएँगे
गुफ़्तुगू बंद न हो
