H پگڙي पगड़ी pagṛī (dim. of pāg, q.v.), s.f. A turban; a mark or token of distinction, (hence) honour, distinction, respect, dignity; head, poll; a kind of poll-tax:—pagṛī utārnā (-kī), To disgrace, dishonour; to overreach, take in, cheat:—pagṛī utarnā, v.n. To be disgraced, &c.:—pagṛī aṭaknā, v.n. To be obstinate, to persist or persevere:—pagṛī bāṅdhnā, v.n. To put on a turban; to become a person of consequence; to be a maker of turbans:—pagṛī bandhnā, v.n. To be presented with, or to put on, a turban (as a token of honour, headship, or hereditary succession):—pagṛī ćhapaṭnā (-kī), 'To snatch off the turban (of)'; to overreach, practice deceit (on), to act treacherously (towards).
