it is also considered one of the finest magazines for children. it was launched in december 1987. published by the delhi urdu academy, this magazine has had associations with prominent personalities such as syed sharif al-hassan naqvi, ishtiaq abidi, makhmoor saidi, zubair rizvi, syed sadiq ali, mansoor usmani, manzoor amrohi, marghoob haider abidi, anees azmi, and others. this magazine received literary contributions from rashid hasan khan, muzaffar hanfi, salam bin razak, izhaar asar, raj narayan raaz, mazhar imam, siraj anwar, rafat surosh, masooda hayat, and many others. in addition to informative articles, it featured puzzles, pen friendships, comics, and prize coupons, which made it highly popular among children. colorful images of children were also regularly published in it. in later issues, a column called "kismat-e-maaloomat" was introduced, focusing on general knowledge, and popular children’s poetry was included as well. the comic column was particularly loved by readers. furthermore, dr. shameem ahmed siddiqui’s series on quizzes, titled "quiz," became a significant mental exercise for literary minds. articles on important personalities were also published regularly. "umang" published several special issues that became very popular, including the "chacha nehru issue" (november 1989) and the "future writers issue" (february 1989). "umang" featured excellent stories, and the selected stories of "umang" have been published in six volumes, compiled by sana farhan, sana khanum, and zainuddin.
