in april 1935, the scholarly, educational, and literary journal shahkar was published by urdu markaz lahore. the editor of the journal was professor tajwar najibabadi, while the joint editor was noon. meem. rashid, m.a. in the journal's editorial notes, n. m. rashed wrote: "our desire is to create such literature and art through shahkar that can satisfy the aesthetic thirst of our youth." maulana tajwar najibabadi wrote: *"the following sections will be permanent features of shahkar: history of urdu literature the stylists of urdu literature contemporary figures comparative studies: a comparison of literary rivals from different eras questions and answers: discussions on various literary, artistic, social, and reformist issues cinema: famous personalities, educational institutions, students, reforms, and innovations research forum: discussions and analyses by experts on significant issues in urdu literature, along with their scholarly conclusions."* articles of this nature were regularly published in shahkar, making it highly popular in literary circles. in her article, "a brief review of shahkar" (published in tahqiq nama, july 2014), dr. safia mushtaq wrote: "this was a scholarly, educational, artistic, and literary journal. the insightful writings of shahkar made an effort to quench the intellectual and literary thirst of literature enthusiasts to some extent."
