क्यूँकर उस बुत से रखूँ जान अज़ीज़
क्या नहीं है मुझे ईमान अज़ीज़
how shall I keep life do say, from that idol free?
do you think that my faith and creed are not dear to me?
दिल से निकला पे न निकला दिल से
है तिरे तीर का पैकान अज़ीज़
though from my heart it did depart, yet it did not free
your arrow's pointed tip you see, is so dear to me
ताब लाए ही बनेगी 'ग़ालिब'
वाक़िआ सख़्त है और जान अज़ीज़
Gaalib forbearance needs be brought, somehow surely
the incident is grievous and, life is dear to me
