A طفل t̤ifl (v.n. fr. طفل 'to be soft or tender,' &c.), s.m. An infant, a child; young (of an animal), youngling:—t̤ifl-ě-uftāda, s.m. A foundling:—t̤ifl-ě-shīr-ḵẖẉār, s.m. Sucking child:—t̤ifl-ě-maktab, s.m. A school-boy; a tyro, a raw, inexperienced person.

طفيل t̤ufail dim. of t̤ifl, q.v.

A طفيل t̤ufail (dim. of t̤ifl, q.v.), s.m. & f. A companion, a humble follower; a parasite; a glutton; one who uninvited accompanies one of the guests to a feast, one who sponges (in this sense said to be derived from Tufail, a poet of Kūfā, who was noted as a feast-hunter); cause, means, instrumentality, intervention (syn. wasīla; z̤arīʻa):—t̤ufail or t̤ufail-se (kisī-ke), By means (of), through the merits or agency (of), &c.
