Adam and Hawwa (Adam and Eve)
Adam, the first man on this earth, was created out of clay of different shades collected from different regions of the planet earth. God blew His soul into him, endowed him with intellect and taught him the names of things which he repeated after Him. As he was gifted with an insatiable appetite for knowledge and was taught the art of communication, the angels feared that sending him on the earth would create disorder as he could exercise his own will and go against the will of God. However, this did not work before the design of God as Adam had already proved his intellectual prowess and his ability to think and make the right choice.
God made Adam his first Prophet and asked the angels to bow down before Him which they did except Iblees (Satan) who defied God’s command. Iblees was a high-ranking jinn, made of smokeless fire, but he considered himself superior to Adam as he audaciously claimed that he was made of fire that he had all the power while Adam was made of mere clay which had no significance. As a result of his refusal to bow down before Adam, Iblees was expelled from the heaven.
Adam was given the companionship of Hawwa who according to the Bible was created from the rib of Adam although there is no such mention in the Quran. God forbade both of them to eat the apples of a particular tree (accordingbto the Bible) and the grains of wheat (according to the Quran). This was when Iblees misled them (according the Quran) and the snake tempted them (according to the Bible). On being misled, both disobeyed God and as soon as they did this, they suddenly became conscious of their nakedness and ran to cover their bodies. As a result of their disobedience, they were driven out of the heaven and sent to the earth which also marked the beginning of mankind’s existence upon this earth. Islam, Christianity and Judaism together teach that Adam and Eve were the first human beings created by God and all human beings on the earth are their descendants.
