Ashaab-e-Kahf (Cave of the seven sleepers)

In a place called Shahr-e-Afsoos (city of sorrows) there lived a king called Daqyanoos who was an idol worshipper. He used to oppress those who did not follow him and his faith. However, there were some in his domain who did not pursue his line and those who did so were treated brutally. In order to save themselves from his wrath, seven of them along with their dog left that place one day and went out looking for a safe place. Ultimately, they reached a cave and found their refuge there. They put their dog at the gate as their guard. God patted them for a long time and gave them and their dog a carefree sleep for as many as three hundred years at a stretch. When they woke up at last, they found themselves safe. The stayed there till they died and were buried there only. This cave is situated in Oman. The story of seven companions and their dog is mentioned in the Quran (Surah 18).
