Nuuh (Noah)
Nuuh, also known as Noah in the Biblical narrative, was one of the earliest Prophets sent by God to spread His message on the Earth. He is known as the True Messenger of God, as well as His Most Grateful Servant. During the times of Nuuh, the society was deeply steeped in debauchery and licentiousness. In order to bring them to the right path, God sent Nuuh as his messenger among these people. Although Nuuh was sincere in his efforts, the people did not follow him. They mocked him as they thought that he was just another human being like anyone else and following him would be against their prestige. Nuuh’s primary responsibility was to warn the people of the impending deluge and assure them of God’s mercy only if they chose the right path. When people paid no heed to him, God asked Nuuh to build an ark. This ark was meant to provide safety to his family and anyone else who believed in God. However, Nuuh’s son who was a non-believer refused to pay heed and chose to seek his refuge at the top of a hill instead.
When Nuuh was in doubt about the shape of the ark, God commanded him to make it with teakwood and shape it like a bird’s belly. The first level of the boat was meant for animals, the second level for humans, and the third one for birds. Seven days before the deluge, God asked Nuuh to enter the ark with his household and animals. Ultimately, when the Great Flood appeared, it took everything in its fold. This massive deluge finished everything that came its way except those in Nuuh’s ark. Nuuh’s son who had sought refuge on a hill top was also drowned in the devastating flood. The ark finally came to a halt at Mount Judi when the water receded. Nuuh is an important apostle in the Quran and a Sura (41) is devoted to him.
