Safa and Marwa

Safa and Marwa are the two hillocks in Mecca. When Hajra (Hagar) ran out water and her little son Ismail (Ishmael) became thirsty, she went out to get some water for her son. Leaving her son behind, the desperate mother ran to Safa looking for someone who could help. When she did not see anyone there, she ran towards Marwa but did not find any trace of help there also. She frantically ran seven times between the two hillocks but with no result. Finally, she heard an angel’s call from above and returned to her son in utter deseration but only to find to her astonishment that there was a well of water around. It was the God’s messenger who had come to the child’s rescue and brought forth a well of water by hitting and digging the ground.
