Profile of Yusuf Nazim

Yusuf Nazim is one of the more prominent prose writers of humour and satire in Urdu. He was born in a small place called Jalna in the state of Maharashtra on 18 November, 1918 where he also received his early education. Later, he joined Osmania College for his Entrance degree. He got his higher degree from Osmania University and started working as a translator in Hyderabad. Subsequently, he was appointed Labour Officer and worked on several positions in the same department.
Yusuf Nazim started writing even while he was in the school. He began with writing poetry but shifted his attention to humour and satire later. His writings that appeared in journals like Shagoofa, Meezan, and Payaam brought him broader acceptance in literary circles. He also wrote essays and sketches, as well as for children. He passed away on 23 July 2009 in Mumbai. His humorous and satirical works are collected in Kaif-o-Kum, Footnote, Deewariye, Zair-e-Ghaur, Faqat, Albatta, Bilkulliyat, Filhaal, Filfaur, Filhaqeeqat, Fizamaana, Filbadeeh, Minjumla, Warna etc. His sketches may be seen in Saaye, Hmsaaye, Zikr-e-Khair, Alaik Salaik, and his children’s literarture in Palak Na Maro, Alif Se Ye Tak, Murghi ki Chaar Taangein, Gandhi Ji South Afreeqa Mein, and Bakrey ki Tareef.Tagged Under
