chand ghanTe shor o ġhul kī zindagī chāroñ taraf
aur phir tanhā.ī kī ham-sā.egī chāroñ taraf
ghar meñ saarī raat be-āvāz hañgāma na pūchh
maiñ akelā niiñd ġhā.eb barhamī chāroñ taraf
dekhne niklā huuñ apnā shahr jañgal kī tarah
duur tak phailā huā hai aadmī chāroñ taraf
mere darvāze pe ab taḳhtī hai mere naam kī
ab na bhaTkegī mirī āvārgī chāroñ taraf
mere ghar meñ hī rahā tā-umr merā vāqi.a
apnī apnī varna arz-e-vāqa.ī chāroñ taraf
chāndnī rātoñ kī bastī meñ huuñ maiñ sahmā huā
ḳhauf se lipTī huī hai raushnī chāroñ taraf
hai koī chehra shanāsā DhūñDtā huuñ bhiiḌ meñ
itnī raunaq meñ bhī ik be-raunaqī chāroñ taraf
pahle merī baat hañs kar Taal bhī dete the vo
lekin ab tasdīq merī baat kī chāroñ taraf
bazm meñ yuuñ to sabhī the phir bhī 'āmir' der tak
tere jaane se rahī ik ḳhāmushī chāroñ taraf

aur phir tanhai ki ham-saegi chaaron taraf
ghar mein sari raat be-awaz hangama na puchh
main akela nind ghaeb barhami chaaron taraf
dekhne nikla hun apna shahr jangal ki tarah
dur tak phaila hua hai aadmi chaaron taraf
mere darwaze pe ab taKHti hai mere nam ki
ab na bhaTkegi meri aawargi chaaron taraf
mere ghar mein hi raha ta-umr mera waqia
apni apni warna arz-e-waqai chaaron taraf
chandni raaton ki basti mein hun main sahma hua
KHauf se lipTi hui hai raushni chaaron taraf
hai koi chehra shanasa DhunDta hun bhiD mein
itni raunaq mein bhi ek be-raunaqi chaaron taraf
