Ishrat Quadri was born in Bhopal where he lived and worked for his livelihood. He was naturally inclined towards poetry since his early age. He began his literary career with story writing in 1942. He came to poetry subsequently. His poetry was deeply influenced by the Progressive Writers Movement. He also established a literary centre called Markaz-e-Adab. Under its banner, he held literary meets and also published books.
