Abdur Rasheed is Professor of Urdu at Jamia Millia Islaamia (JMI), New Delhi. His interests range from linguistics to Urdu lexicography. He also has a penchant for collecting and editing rare Urdu texts. His books include Fehrist-e-Kutub, Siddiq Book Depot (co-edited with Prof. CM naim); Fehrist-e-kutub Matba Munshi Naval Kishore (co-edited with Prof. Chander Shekhar); Farhang-e-Kalam-e-Mir: Chiragh-e-Hidayat Ki Raushni Mein, a dictionary of Mir Taqi Mir’s poetry; Selected Bibliography of Urdu Language and Linguistics (co-edited with Prof. Ali R.Fatihi; and Farsi Mein Hindi Alfaz (Hindi words in Persian). He is one of the co-editors of a multi lingual dictionary, Farhang-e- Aryan (Persian to Hindi, English and Urdu). Five volumes of the dictionary have been published so far. His research articles on Urdu lexicography and the nineteenth century texts that he edited have been published in prestigious Urdu journals in India and Pakistan.
