Noor Jahan Sarwat was born on November 28 1949 in Delhi. She began her career as a lecturer at the Jawahar Lal Nehru University. She also worked in the same capacity at Zakir Hussain College. She had also worked with All India Radio as an interviewer. As a journalist, she was very courageous. As a poet in the world of sher-o-shayari, she had distinct style and diction.
She started her career as a journalist in 1980. She joined Qaumi Awaz Delhi as a correspondent under the benefaction of the senior journalist Ishrat Ali Siddiqui and was honored as the first Urdu lady journalist of Delhi. In addition to being the editor of the weekly supplement of the Qaumi Awaz, she was also appointed as the resident editor of the Delhi edition of the Daily Inquilab, which was published from Mumbai.
