Obaidur Rahman (1961-2014) was born in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. After receiving his degrees of M. Sc. and Ph. D. in Zoology in 1982 and 1989 respectively, he worked for Indian Council for Agricultural Research as a science editor. He also worked on deputation for two years as Regional Director at the Patna Regional Centre of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad. He published two collections of his poems in Urdu titled Aawaaz Ke Saaye (2001), Soch Aabshaar (2007), and one in Devnagri titled Ek Nao Kaaghazi (2010). He also earned distinction as a science writer and published two books titled Kuchh Science Se (2003) and Science Sab Ke Liye (2007). For Aawaaz Ke Saaye, he received awards from the Urdu Akademies of Delhi and UP, and Sahitya Sansad, Patna. His science books Kuchh Science Se also received award from Urdu Akademi of Bihar, and Science Sab Ke Liye from Delhi Urdu Akademi. After a prolonged illness of over a year, he passed away in Delhi.
