Poet, novelist and screenplay writer, Aleem Masroor was born in the holy city Banaras in 1926. He is commonly known for his novel “Bahut der kardi”(1975). The super hit film Tawaif (released in 1985), directed by B. R. Chopra, was based on his novel “Bahut der kardi”. Aleem who bagged the ‘Best Story Writer’ Filmfare award for the same, had also a poetry collection named ‘Harf-e-Mukarrar’. His favorite quote was “Urdu Ghazal is not Great poetry of Urdu, but a very disciplined and beautiful poetry”
