Kawish Badri is known as a poet with Progressive leanings. He was born in 1927. He got his education at Government Mohammedan Art College, Madras, and Madras University. Afterwards, he worked at the university library. He developed a taste for poetry in the company of his maternal uncle Hazrat Baangi Abdul Qadir Danish Faraazi Aambori. In 1948, he started publishing a literary magazine called Funkaar which became a platform to propagate Progressive ideology and poetics. Apart from writing poetry, Badri also wrote criticism. His poetry distinctly bears out the images and impressions of India’s south.
