Born Ahmad Sharif, Pagal Adilabadi, occupies a special place in the world of Urdu literature. A noted poet of humor and satire, he was born in a distinguished and respected family in Nizamabad, Telangana, where he received his primary education. He had a penchant for poetry and singing from his student days. He used to sing songs and ghazals, sung by renowned playback singer Mohammad Rafi, to his circle of friends. It was this passion that made him turn to poetry in 1970. There are five collections of Pagal Adilabadi’s poetry namely, ‘Allam-Ghallam’, ‘Chu.n Chu.n Ka Murabba’, ‘GaDbaD-GhoTalaa’, ‘KhaTTe Anguur’, and ‘khusur-pusur’. He participated in poetry recitals in all corners of India and captivated the hearts of the people with his witty creations. Besides, he also recited his Ghazals, parodies of film songs, Nazms, and Geet in the Mushairas of several Gulf countries. He passed away in 2007, in Adilabad, Telangana.
