masarrat" was a well-known magazine from patna, edited by the famous journalist and former editor of monthly delhi, zia-ur-rehman ghousi. this magazine made its mark in history, and it had the collaboration of prominent urdu writers such as suhail azim abadi, zaki anwar, alqama shibli, tamana muzaffarpuri, zaki ahmed, and manzar ashiq hergaonvi. several special issues were also published, among which the chacha nehru issue was particularly popular. in the context of children's literature in bihar, this magazine holds a significant place. the first issue of masarrat was published in december 1966, featuring works by aasi ram nagri, razza naqvi wahi, zafar oganvi, zaki anwar, along with messages from dr. zakir hussain and kaleemuddin ahmed. masarrat included regular columns on scientific information, cartoons, jokes, emerging artists, question-and-answer sections, general knowledge, golden quotes, "coloring pictures," sports, and interesting news. masarrat's contribution to the development of children's literature is unforgettable. according to dr. manzar ashiq hergaonvi, masarrat is the first children's magazine in urdu from bihar. zia-ur-rehman ghoushi, in his book bihar mein bachon ka adab (children's literature in bihar), has not only provided details related to masarrat but also presented a selection of writings from the magazine, highlighting its significance and importance.
