Malik Muhammad Jaisi was born in 1477 in the town of Jais in Awadh. He was among the leading Indian Sufi poets and spiritual leaders. His contemporaries were Shah Mubarak and Shah Kamaal. Some people also consider Makhdoom Ashraf Jaha'ngir Samnani as their mentor. His most famous work is Padmavat which was written in 1540. At the end of this book, Malik Muhammad says that he has got old. At the beginning of Padmavat, he wrote a praise of Sher Shah Suri. He wrote Padmavat in Awadhi, similar to Tulsi Das who wrote Ram Charat Mans Ramayan in Awadhi. Jaisi has written poetry to bring Sufi traditions to the masses. His poetry helped to create a sense of humanity. Jaisi has not portrayed Alauddin Khilji as a high-profile character in Padmavat, but has portrayed Raja Ratan Sen, Gora, Badal, etc. of Chittor as high-profile characters. He passed away in 1542.
