Muhammad Mushtaq was born in Meerut on 1st January 1920. In the literary world, he is known by his pen name, Meerati. His Meerati series stand no competition in Urdu literature. These series are also known as Shaariq Meerati. He achieved his Master Degree in Geography, Economics and Urdu. He was appointed as vice principal in Islamia Inter College of Muzaffarnagar in 1949. He served as a principal of Rehmaan Inter College of Modha of Hameerpur from 1952 to 1980. His literary life began in 1933. Besides poetry, he was interested in prose. Baada-o-Jaam, Harf-e-Shoq, Geography of Hameerpur, Khajuraao Ilhaamaat-e-Sarmad, and Aaina-e-Zaheer are the collections of his works.
