The magazine primarily published the works of progressive writers. Several prominent literary figures were associated with its editorial board, including Sarala Devi, Makhmoor Jalandhari, Prakash Pandit, Fikr Taunsvi, Wamiq Jaunpuri, Z. Ansari, and Muhammad Yusuf Jami. In its first issue, Sahir Ludhianvi and Ram Prakash Ashk were mentioned as editors. Shahrah published articles on various literary genres. A notable feature in the magazine was "Architects of New Literature," which introduced global literary figures such as Louis Aragon and other international artists. The magazine also played a key role in introducing young writers and shedding light on contemporary issues in Urdu literature through its editorial columns.
