first of all, I'm not allowed / to come into your lane
and if I come, then your address, I cannot obtain
milnā jo mirā chhoḌ diyā tū ne to mujh se
ḳhātir se tirī saarā zamānā nahīñ miltā
as you gave up meeting me, so in regard for thee
in the world, now everyone, keeps away from me
aave to bahāne se chalā shab mire ghar ko
aisā koī kyā tujh ko bahānā nahīñ miltā
my home, at night, on some pretext, visit if you do
can you not find, some excuse, to make this come true?
kyā fā.eda gar hirs kare zar kī tū nādāñ
kuchh hirs se qārūñ kā ḳhazānā nahīñ miltā
even by mistake she didn't / say a word for me
what happened? that the mad one, no longer can I see
bhūle se bhī us ne na kahā yuuñ mire haq meñ
kyā ho gayā jo ab vo divānā nahīñ miltā
pleasure, in being seated, I could not then abide
till such time our shoulders / weren't touching side by side
phir baiThne kā mujh ko maza hī nahīñ uThtā
jab tak ki tire shāne se shānā nahīñ miltā
