dil kī hasrat ko shaab honā thā
'āshiq-e-māhtāb honā thā
ham ne chāhe the phuul sahrā meñ
kab mukammal ye ḳhvāb honā thā
ham ko milnī thī sirf rusvā.ī
yuuñ vafā kā hisāb honā thā
kaise Tiktā vo ik jagah āḳhir
us ko ‘itr-e-gulāb honā thā
us kī fitrat meñ thā fareb 'āzī'
ek din be-naqāb honā thā
dil ki hasrat ko shab hona tha

hum ko milni thi sirf ruswai
yun wafa ka hisab hona tha
kaise Tikta wo ek jagah aaKHir
