    is tamāshe sabab varna kahāñ baaqī hai

    ab bhī kuchh log haiñ zinda ki jahāñ baaqī hai

    ahl-e-sahrā bhī baḌhe aate haiñ shahroñ taraf

    saañs lene ko jahāñ sirf dhuāñ baaqī hai

    zindagī umr ke us moḌ pe pahuñchī hai jahāñ

    suud nāpaid hai ehsās-e-ziyāñ baaqī hai

    DhūñDhtī rahtī hai har lamha nigāh-e-dahshat

    aur kis shahr-e-mohabbat meñ amaañ baaqī hai

    maiñ kabhī suud qaa.il bhī nahīñ thā lekin

    zindagī aur batā kitnā ziyāñ baaqī hai

    maar kar bhī mire qātil ko tasallī na huī

    maiñ huā ḳhatm to kyuuñ nām-o-nishāñ baaqī hai

    aisī ḳhushiyāñ to kitāboñ meñ mileñgī shāyad

    ḳhatm ab ghar tasavvur hai makāñ baaqī hai

    laakh 'āzar' raheñ tajdīd-e-ġhazal se lipTe

    aaj bhī 'mīr' andāz-e-bayāñ baaqī hai

    ab bhi kuchh log hain zinda ki jahan baqi hai

    ahl-e-sahra bhi baDhe aate hain shahron ki taraf

    sans lene ko jahan sirf dhuan baqi hai

    zindagi umr ke us moD pe pahunchi hai jahan

    sud napaid hai ehsas-e-ziyan baqi hai

    DhunDhti rahti hai har lamha nigah-e-dahshat

    aur kis shahr-e-mohabbat mein aman baqi hai

    main kabhi sud ka qail bhi nahin tha lekin

    zindagi aur bata kitna ziyan baqi hai

    mar kar bhi mere qatil ko tasalli na hui

    main hua KHatm to kyun nam-o-nishan baqi hai

    aisi KHushiyan to kitabon mein milengi shayad

    KHatm ab ghar ka tasawwur hai makan baqi hai

    lakh 'azar' rahen tajdid-e-ghazal se lipTe

    aaj bhi 'mir' ka andaz-e-bayan baqi hai
