miTā dete haiñ hastī ko riyā-kārī nahīñ karte
tire bande dikhāve kī vafādārī nahīñ karte
himāla kī bulandī bhī qadam-bosī ko gar utre
zamīñ vaale zamīñ ke saath ġhaddārī nahīñ karte
hamārī tishna-kāmī ḳhud havā detī hai shiddat ko
ajab bādal haiñ pyāsoñ kī taraf-dārī nahīñ karte
banā rakhā hai kāñToñ par gharauñdā gul ne ḳhushbū kā
bilā maqsad to bhauñre nāz-bardārī nahīñ karte
jhulastī dhuup ko ham oḌh lete haiñ kabhī sar par
kabhī ham jism ke saa.e se bhī yaarī nahīñ karte
munāfiq ho agar mausam badal jaate haiñ chehre tak
ḳhushāmad karne vaale bhī taraf-dārī nahīñ karte
kashākash meñ zamāne kī basar-auqāt mushkil thī
to kyā karte agar 'najmī' adākārī nahīñ karte

kabhi hum jism ke sae se bhi yari nahin karte
