sar uThāo to sahī aañkh milāo to sahī
nashsha-e-mai bhī nahīñ niiñd ke maate bhī nahīñ
at least do lift your face and let your eyes look into mine
no wine that stupefies as yet nor sleep that holds in sway
kyā kahā phir to kaho ham nahīñ sunte terī
nahīñ sunte to ham aisoñ ko sunāte bhī nahīñ
what you just said do say once more,I will pay you no heed

ḳhuub parda hai ki chilman se lage baiThe haiñ
saaf chhupte bhī nahīñ sāmne aate bhī nahīñ
what coyness this is, to abide,a screen beside her face

mujh se lāġhar tirī āñkhoñ meñ khaTakte to rahe
tujh se nāzuk mirī nazroñ meñ samāte bhī nahīñ
while you profess my ugliness does irritate your sight
and in my eyes your daintiness, can't be contained I say
dekhte hī mujhe mahfil meñ ye irshād huā
kaun baiThā hai use log uThāte bhī nahīñ
noticing my presence near, she asks of those around
Say who is this intruder here? and who has let him stay?
ho chukā qat.a ta.alluq to jafā.eñ kyuuñ hoñ
jin ko matlab nahīñ rahtā vo satāte bhī nahīñ
if all relations have been spurned, then why this cruelty?

jaan pyārī bhī nahīñ jaan se jaate bhī nahīñ
