रोने से और इश्क़ में बेबाक हो गए
धोए गए हम इतने कि बस पाक हो गए
in love, bolder I became, once openly I cried
I was washed so thoroughly that I got sanctified
सर्फ़-ए-बहा-ए-मय हुए आलात-ए-मय-कशी
थे ये ही दो हिसाब सो यूँ पाक हो गए
to make payment for my wine, I sold my drinking gear
just these two burdens I had, thus I managed to clear
रुस्वा-ए-दहर गो हुए आवारगी से तुम
बारे तबीअतों के तो चालाक हो गए
your waywardness was the cause for your notriety
shrewd you did become although, temperamentally
कहता है कौन नाला-ए-बुलबुल को बे-असर
पर्दे में गुल के लाख जिगर चाक हो गए
who says the plaints of nightingales are to no avail
a million hearts of roses are rent behind the veil
पूछे है क्या वजूद ओ अदम अहल-ए-शौक़ का
आप अपनी आग के ख़स-ओ-ख़ाशाक हो गए
what of being and nothingness of lovers you inquire
they have burnt like leaves and straw in heat of their desire
करने गए थे उस से तग़ाफ़ुल का हम गिला
की एक ही निगाह कि बस ख़ाक हो गए
I had gone there to complain about her unconcern
just a glance she cast on me, to ashes did I turn
इस रंग से उठाई कल उस ने 'असद' की ना'श
दुश्मन भी जिस को देख के ग़मनाक हो गए
in such a style my coffin, she carried yesterday
seeing which e'en enemies of mine were caused dismay
