tamām fikr zamāne kī Taal detā hai
ye kaisā kaif tumhārā ḳhayāl detā hai
All cares and concerns of the world are turned away
What is this headiness your very thought brings
hamāre band kivāḌoñ pe dastakeñ de kar
shab-e-firāq meñ vahm-e-visāl detā hai
Knocking on our closed doors,it brings
The illusion of meeting to our night of separation
udaas āñkhoñ se dariyā kā tazkira kar ke
zamāna ham ko hamārī misāl detā hai
Talking of the river to sorrowful eyes
The world gives us our own example
ye kaisā raat meñ tāroñ kā silsila niklā
jo gardishoñ meñ muqaddar bhī Dhaal detā hai
What is this procession of stars tonight
That mould destiny in endless circles
bichhaḌ ke tum se yaqīñ ho chalā hai ye mujh ko
ki ishq lutf-e-sazā be-misāl detā hai
Separated from you, I have come to believe
Love gives joy of punishment beyond compare
