hum tujhse kis hawas ki falak justuju karen
ham tujh se kis havas kī falak justujū kareñ
dil hī nahīñ rahā hai ki kuchh aarzū kareñ
O heaven! what desire, say, should I seek from you?
when my heart no longer is, what hope can I pursue?
miT jaa.eñ ek aan meñ kasrat-numā.iyāñ
ham aa.ine ke sāmne jab aa ke hū kareñ
------------
------------
tar-dāmanī pe shaiḳh hamārī na jā.iyo
dāman nichoḌ deñ to farishte vuzū kareñ
the moistness of my hem, O priest, deem not a minor thing
Angels would perform ablution, if my hem I wring
sar-tā-qadam zabān haiñ juuñ sham.a go ki ham
par ye kahāñ majāl jo kuchh guftugū kareñ
from head to toe I am a tongue / with a flame like style
but where is the courage that / I'd even speak a while?
har-chand aa.ina huuñ par itnā huuñ nā-qubūl
muñh pher le vo jis ke mujhe rū-ba-rū kareñ
though a mirror, I am shunned, to such a great degree
turns his face away, whoever's / brought in front of me
ne gul ko hai sabāt na ham ko hai e'tibār
kis baat par chaman havas-e-rañg-o-bū kareñ
flowers lack endurance and / I too am discontent
garden, on what ground should I / desire colour, scent?
hai apnī ye salāh ki sab zāhidān-e-shahr
ai 'dard' aa ke bai.at-e-dast-e-subū kareñ
this is my advice that all / the pious of the land
should come forth / and swear alleigance / to the goblet's hand
hum tujh se kis hawas ki falak justuju karen
dil hi nahin raha hai ki kuchh aarzu karen
O heaven! what desire, say, should I seek from you?
when my heart no longer is, what hope can I pursue?
miT jaen ek aan mein kasrat-numaiyan
hum aaine ke samne jab aa ke hu karen

tar-damani pe shaiKH hamari na jaiyo
daman nichoD den to farishte wuzu karen
the moistness of my hem, O priest, deem not a minor thing
Angels would perform ablution, if my hem I wring
sar-ta-qadam zaban hain jun shama go ki hum
par ye kahan majal jo kuchh guftugu karen
from head to toe I am a tongue / with a flame like style
but where is the courage that / I'd even speak a while?
har-chand aaina hun par itna hun na-qubul
munh pher le wo jis ke mujhe ru-ba-ru karen
though a mirror, I am shunned, to such a great degree
turns his face away, whoever's / brought in front of me
ne gul ko hai sabaat na hum ko hai e'tibar
kis baat par chaman hawas-e-rang-o-bu karen
flowers lack endurance and / I too am discontent
garden, on what ground should I / desire colour, scent?
hai apni ye salah ki sab zahidan-e-shahr
ai 'dard' aa ke baiat-e-dast-e-subu karen
this is my advice that all / the pious of the land
should come forth / and swear alleigance / to the goblet's hand
