کسی مشاعرے میں حفیظ جالندھری اپنی غزل سناتے سناتے چراغ حسن حسرت سے مخاطب ہوکر بولے، ’’حسرت صاحب! مصرع اٹھائیے۔‘‘
اور حسرت صاحب نہایت بیچارگی سے کہنے لگے، ’’ضرور اٹھاؤں گا، اپنی تو عمر ہی غزلوں کے مصرعے اٹھانے اور مردوں کو کندھا دینے میں کٹ گئی ہے۔‘‘
