This Nazm is employs an acrostic verse form in which the initials of the first and second lines form the word Jawaharlal Nehru.
जान-ए-हिन्दोस्तान था नेहरू
जैसे उस की ज़बाँ में था जादू
वो वजाहत वो शान थी उस में
वाक़ई आन-बान थी उस में
अम्न-ए-आलम का वो पयामी था
अल-ग़रज़ दोस्ती का हामी था
हिन्द के आसमाँ का तारा था
हम को उस ने बहुत सँवारा था
रूह-परवर रुख़-ओ-जमाल उस का
रौशनी इर्तिक़ा ख़याल उस का
लम्स-ए-गुल से रहा मोअ'त्तर भी
ला'ल भी वो था और जवाहर भी
इल्म-ओ-हिकमत से प्यार करता था
अक़्ल वो इख़्तियार करता था
लब पे जय हिन्द उस के ना'रा था
लेना आज़ादी सिर्फ़ मंशा था
नूर-अफ़ज़ा हैं यूँ करम उस के
नक़्श में हर तरफ़ क़दम उस के
हर नफ़स एहतिराम करते हैं
हम उसे सब सलाम करते हैं
रंग उस ने दिया फ़साने को
रौशनी दे गया ज़माने को
वो कि बच्चों को सब से प्यारा था
वो मोहब्बत का इस्तिआ'रा था
