ye chāñdnī ye sitāre ye ābshār ye jhiil
ye jugnuoñ kī chamak aur ye titliyoñ kī uḌaan
ye koyaleñ ye papīhe tarah tarah ke ye phuul
ghane ghane se daraḳhtoñ ke mīThe mīThe phal
hasīn ḳhvāb meñ bachche kī jāduī muskān
vafā ḳhulūs mohabbat jihād qurbānī
ye sab qadīm haiñ in meñ nayā to kuchh bhī nahīñ
hamāre apne masā.il bhī sab purāne haiñ
ye kusht-o-ḳhūn ye ġhārat-garī ye barbādī
havā-o-hirs-o-mazālim kī dāstān-e-tavīl
galī galī ye sharāb-o-shabāb ke fitne
zar-o-zamīn kā ab tak vahī qadīm fasād
ye saarī bāteñ hamesha se thiiñ aur aaj bhī haiñ
ye baat ab bhī nahīñ tai huī ki sach kyā hai
agar yahī hai muqaddar hamārī duniyā kā
kisī rasūl ke aane kī kyā zarūrat thī

gali gali ye sharab-o-shabab ke fitne
zar-o-zamin ka ab tak wahi qadim fasad
ye sari baaten hamesha se thin aur aaj bhi hain
ye baat ab bhi nahin tai hui ki sach kya hai
agar yahi hai muqaddar hamari duniya ka
kisi rasul ke aane ki kya zarurat thi
