soch
kyuuñ merā dil shaad nahīñ hai
kyuuñ ḳhāmosh rahā kartā huuñ
chhoḌo merī rām-kahānī
maiñ jaisā bhī huuñ achchhā huuñ
Pray sir, why this melancholy?
And why this silence of the tomb?
Let’s leave my sorry tale alone
I’ll be ok, no matter what..
merā dil ġham-gīñ hai to kyā
ġham-gīñ ye duniyā hai saarī
ye dukh terā hai na merā
ham sab kī jāgīr hai piyārī
What though my heart be full of woe
The world’s a sorry place to be
This sorrow isn’t mine or yours
It is our common legacy, my love
tū gar merī bhī ho jaa.e
duniyā ke ġham yūñhī raheñge
paap ke phande zulm ke bandhan
apne kahe se kaT na sakeñge
Even if you were mine alone
These sorrows would still be in place
These sins, these bonds of oppression
Won’t disappear on our say so
ġham har hālat meñ mohlik hai
apnā ho yā aur kisī kā
ronā-dhonā jī ko jalānā
yuuñ bhī hamārā yuuñ bhī hamārā
Grief’s lethal in every form
Yours, theirs or our own
This wall of tears, this numbing pain
Is our own, our very own
kyuuñ na jahāñ kā ġham apnā leñ
ba.ad meñ sab tadbīreñ socheñ
ba.ad meñ sukh ke sapne dekheñ
sapnoñ kī ta.abīreñ socheñ
Why not embrace each other’s sorrow
And think of consequences later
Dream happy dreams some other day
And hope that one day they bear fruit
be-fikre dhan-daulat vaale
ye āḳhir kyuuñ ḳhush rahte haiñ
in kā sukh aapas meñ bāñTeñ
ye bhī āḳhir ham jaise haiñ
These lesser mortals, carefree and rich
Where do they toss their every pain
Let’s grab their smiles, their happiness
Can we not be like them as well?
ham ne maanā jañg kaḌī hai
sar phūTeñge ḳhuun bahegā
ḳhuun meñ ġham bhī bah jā.eñge
ham na raheñ ġham bhī na rahegā
The battle’s fierce, we shall admit
Heads will be bloodied, and unbowed
Our sorrows will flow, in this blood bath
And all will pass on – we and our pain..
kyun mera dil shad nahin hai
kyun KHamosh raha karta hun
chhoDo meri ram-kahani
main jaisa bhi hun achchha hun
Pray sir, why this melancholy?
And why this silence of the tomb?
Let’s leave my sorry tale alone
I’ll be ok, no matter what..
mera dil gham-gin hai to kya
gham-gin ye duniya hai sari
ye dukh tera hai na mera
hum sab ki jagir hai piyari
What though my heart be full of woe
The world’s a sorry place to be
This sorrow isn’t mine or yours
It is our common legacy, my love
tu gar meri bhi ho jae
duniya ke gham yunhi rahenge
pap ke phande zulm ke bandhan
apne kahe se kaT na sakenge
Even if you were mine alone
These sorrows would still be in place
These sins, these bonds of oppression
Won’t disappear on our say so
gham har haalat mein mohlik hai
apna ho ya aur kisi ka
rona-dhona ji ko jalana
yun bhi hamara yun bhi hamara
Grief’s lethal in every form
Yours, theirs or our own
This wall of tears, this numbing pain
Is our own, our very own
kyun na jahan ka gham apna len
baad mein sab tadbiren sochen
baad mein sukh ke sapne dekhen
sapnon ki tabiren sochen
Why not embrace each other’s sorrow
And think of consequences later
Dream happy dreams some other day
And hope that one day they bear fruit
be-fikre dhan-daulat wale
ye aaKHir kyun KHush rahte hain
in ka sukh aapas mein banTen
ye bhi aaKHir hum jaise hain
These lesser mortals, carefree and rich
Where do they toss their every pain
Let’s grab their smiles, their happiness
Can we not be like them as well?
hum ne mana jang kaDi hai
sar phuTenge KHun bahega
KHun mein gham bhi bah jaenge
hum na rahen gham bhi na rahega
The battle’s fierce, we shall admit
Heads will be bloodied, and unbowed
Our sorrows will flow, in this blood bath
And all will pass on – we and our pain..
