P گشت gasht [v.n. of gashtan, another form of gardīdan, q.v.; the r of the Zend rt. vareṭ is changed to sh before ˚tan, and the letters eṭ are dropped], s.f. Surrounding; going round (esp. of guards patrolling); round or beat (of a patrol or watch); walking, strolling; walk, stroll, perambulation; tour; a procession:—gasht phirnā, or gasht karnā, or gasht lagānā, or gasht mārnā, To go round; to go (or to make) one's rounds; to patrol:—gasht-salāmī, s.f. A tax or fee levied on their tours by public officers (under native governments):—gasht-maḥāl, s.m.
