ف fe, or fā
ف fe, or fā, the twenty-sixth letter of the Urdū or Hindūstānī alphabet (the twentieth of the Arabic, and twenty-third of the Persian alphabet). Its sound is that of the English f. It has no exact correspondent in Sanskrit, nor in any of the modern Aryan languages of India; in words introduced into these from the Persian or Arabic, फ ph is generally substituted for fe.
