Iblees
Iblees, also known as Satan, was a jinn who had risen to a high rank and was given a place in the heaven. Also called Azazeel, he was made of smokeless fire. When God made Adam from clay, he asked all the angels to bow down before Adam. The angels obeyed except Iblees who considered Adam inferior to himself by claiming that Adam was made of clay while he himself was made of fire which was much more powerful. As a punishment for his disobedience to God, he was expelled from the heaven by God. He was, however, been given respite from the purgatory till the Day of Judgment. To wreak revenge against his expulsion, he vowed to lead God’s creation astray. He, thus, misleads people through “whispering into hearts” and fulfils his oath by bringing them to their damnation.
