Professor Ahmad Mahfooz is an accomplished scholar hailing from Allahabad. He earned his Master's in M.A. Urdu from a prestigious university, securing the top position. Later, he pursued M. Phil. and PhD and joined the Department of Urdu at Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi, as an Assistant Professor in 1997.
Today, he serves as the Head of the Department.
Professor Mahfooz boasts an extensive knowledge of the prosody and poetics of Urdu and Persian classical poetry, making him a distinguished scholar. He has edited the complete poetic works of Meer Taqi Meer under the guidance of the renowned critic Shamsur Rahman Faruqi. This significant work of scholarship is widely acclaimed as the best edition of the complete volumes of Meer.
Besides being a remarkable scholar of classical and modern Urdu poetry, Professor Mahfooz is also a notable contemporary poet of Urdu Ghazal. His recently published collection of poetry, "Ghubar-e Hairani," has received widespread recognition and appreciation in the literary circle.
