Bano Tahira Sayeed: A poetess of Irani descent, a writer of fiction and a translator. she was born in Agra and brought up in Lucknow and Tehran (her father was an Irani and worked as a professor of English language in some major cities of India). She settled down in Hyderabad (having married Brigadier Sayeed of Hyderabad). She had great command over language such as Urdu, Persian, French and English.Other than Urdu she wrote poetry and fiction in Persian and English as well. Several of her books have been published. She was bestowed with an award by the King and Queen of Iran in 1961, in the year 1959 by the Urdu Academy of Andhra and the Meer Academy of Lucknow granted her with the Imtiaz e Meer Award. A student of M.Phil from the Usmania University carried out research on her poetry. Her work have been translated into English and Telugu and other languages as well. Her poetry was telecasted on All India Radio and on Dur Darshan. She used to present her poetry in a graceful and unique style in Mushairas.
