Profile of Bismil Aazmi
Born : 01 Jul 1946 | Azamgarh, Uttar pradesh
Bismil Azmi was born on July 1, 1946 in Azamgarh. In 1972, he came to Mumbai after doing B.Ed. In the same year, Anjuman-e-Islam was restored as a madrassa in Kurla. After completing his MA, he gained promotion and became the President of the Madrassa. After retiring from there, he opened another branch in Goondi which is still under his patronage. Initially, Akmal Azmi, who was his uncle, corrected his poetry. Now, he takes correction from Professor Mujahid Hussain Sahib. Bismal started writing poetry in 1968. Many collections of his poetry have been published. One of his students also wrote his Ph.D. dissertation on him.
Poetry is the voice of the heart, so it has the effect of the poet's feelings and emotions. Hali's scholarly and advice style, Josh's youthful zeal, and Iqbal's message of self are found in his poetry. Bismal Sahib is a teacher, so his poetry is full of teaching and advice. While studying his poetry, it is important to keep in mind that he is a teacher. He has spent all his time promoting knowledge. He worked as a teacher for almost 31 years and in the last years he became the principal. One of his poems is "Moallim", which is extremely interesting. In it, he has described the virtues of the teacher and highlighted its importance to the world. There is a philosophical aspect to this poem. It can be called poetry painted. His poems have simplicity and fluency of thought. The effortlessness of his expression arrests the readers.
Poems like Gulshan-e-Islam were written by him after his students had left the school, and was envisaged as an anthem for the school, paying tribute to Principal Shaukat Sultan and dedicated to Mujahid Abu Asim Azmi. These are his poems which demonstrate his eloquence. In addition, he has written some poems for children.
Bismil's poetry is earthly and hard-hitting. The world he lives in is not whimsical, it’s tangible and sensatory. Unlike earlier times when love was the central force of all poetry and when poetry was put to shame largely because of how passion was expressed through it, Bismil, too, encompasses love in his writings, but it seldom dilutes the purity of his idea; almost never fabricating its essence.
