Abdul Majeed Khan , known as Hairat Shimlavi, was born in 1901 in Shimla. He received his education at Aligarh. He was ideologically committed to Khilafat Movement. Uncomfortable at his involved with this movement, his father called him back to Shimla. As such, his education remained incomplete. He lived all his life doing small jobs.
Hairat was essentially a poet of ghazal. Although he respected and practised the classical norms of poetry, his ghazals bear the marks of contemporary turbulence and his offbeat thinking which remain the distinguishing features of his poetry
