Born on 16 June, 1919, at Allahabad, Iqbal Mahir was one of the last disciples of famous poet-mentor Seemab Akbarabadi. He received his early education at Islamia Inter College, Allahabad and passed his intermediate examination from Government Inter College there. He was interested in science in particular. He started writing poetry in 1935. He was committed essentially to progressive ideology and both his ghazals and nazmz bore its mark.Dayaar-e-Gang-O-Jaman, a collections of his poems was published from Allahabad in 1975 and it contained several poems on the city of Allahabad. His ghazals were collected in Lauh-e-Adab in 1984. He was a recipient of several awards for his poetical works.
