Profile of Swati Sani Resham
Born : 02 Mar 1968 | Nagpur, Maharashtra
Swati, born on 2nd March, 1968, in Nagpur, discovered her love for expression through poetry when she was 13. Introduced to books and literature by her father at a very young age, her poetic journey took an unexpected turn when in 1983, he gifted her the book 'Aaina-e-Ghazal' by Dr. Zarina Sani – it made her fall in love with Urdu poetry. Interestingly, fate wove its threads, and she married Dr. Zarina Sani’s son, Tarique, 11 years later.
A science graduate, she completed her studies with a postgraduate course from the Indian Institute of Mass Communications, New Delhi, in 1989. Several years later, when she was almost 50, she pursued her passion for Urdu language and literature by doing an MA in Urdu Literature from Nagpur University.
Around a decade back, when she decided to pursue writing Urdu poetry seriously, Janab Hamid Iqbal Siddiqui, a distinguished poet, journalist, and editor of Shair magazine, became her mentor. Swati's Ghazals are now published regularly in esteemed publications such as Rashtriya Sahara and Lokmat.
Her professional journey is a tale of diverse chapters that started from a decade-long stint in the advertising industry to running a software company for 22 years. Then, in 2019, driven by her passion for Urdu language and literature, she embarked on a new path as an author and translator.
Swati aspires to make Urdu poetry available to those who love Urdu but struggle with its nuances and intricacies. To bridge this gap, she has written several books, notable amongst them are: 'The Eloquence of Ghalib,' featuring 100 transcreated couplets of Mirza Ghalib in English; 'The Fervor of Mir,' featuring 100 transcreated couplets of Mir Taqi Mir in English; and 'Verses in Bloom,' a collection of over 150 memorable Urdu couplets transcreated into English.
Besides this, her project, A Sher A Day, that publishes one sher and its translation into English is also popular among the English-speaking Urdu loving people.Tagged Under
