    Interesting Fact

Gauhar Jan, a famous singer from Calcutta, once went to Allahabad and stayed at the house of the courtesan Janaki Bai. When Gauhar Jan was about to leave, she said to her host, "My heart longs to meet Khan Bahadur Syed Akbar Allahabadi." So the next day the two reached Akbar Allahabadi. Janaki Bai introduced and said that this is Gauhar Jan, a very famous singer from Calcutta. I was very eager to meet you, so I brought them to meet you. Akbar said, "What did I do to have such good fortune, otherwise I am neither a prophet nor an preacher, nor a devout, nor a prince, nor any saint who is considered worthy of pilgrimage." I used to be a judge but now I am retired and am merely poor Akbar, wondering what gift to offer at your service. Well, I will write a poem as a memento". Saying this, he wrote the following poem on a piece of paper and handed it over to Gauhar Jan. Akbar's wit and presence of mind was no secret to anyone. Once at a gathering, there was complete silence and suddenly Gauhar Jan appeared on the stage. With great respect and etiquette she started, Yuun to Gauhar ko muyyasar hain hazaaron shohar, haan pasand usko nahiin ek bhi Akbar ke siva'. Needless to say, Akbar was left marooned.
