koī rusvā.ī hai na shohrat hai
ye mohabbat hai yā karāmat hai
shauq merā nahīñ junūñ-añgez
so bayābāñ ko mujh se vahshat hai
rañg kyā kyā haiñ zer-e-band-e-qabā
dar-o-dīvār tak ko hairat hai
vo taġhāful-shi.ār kyā jaane
ishq to husn kī zarūrat hai
mere ḳhurshīd ḳhush-gumān na ho
muskurānā to us kī aadat hai

shauq mera nahin junun-angez
so bayaban ko mujh se wahshat hai
rang kya kya hain zer-e-band-e-qaba
dar-o-diwar tak ko hairat hai
wo taghaful-shiar kya jaane
